Nicole Ari Parker has worked in film, TV, and on stages. She was best known for her character Teri (the vigorous legal) Joseph. She is now known by her maiden name of Nikki Kodjoe. The talent she displayed in her acting was apparent since childhood. A Maryland high-school contest awarded her with the award for best actress. Born from Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria until 7 years old, Contractor was well-versed in traveling around the globe and in a wide range of cultures at a very young age. When she was seven to nine, the young lady attended boarding schools in London. Her family moved to Toronto which she stayed in throughout her early years. Contractor achieved academic success throughout her time in Toronto in addition to her training as the ballerina. She attended an Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school where she did not only dance but also studied theatre. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting more seriously at age of 16, after ten year of dance. Following her graduation from high school Contractor received a scholarship from the University of Toronto to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology. In addition, she obtained a Master's degree in Theatre. Following a semester at the University, Contractor went to an open call audition for the show Pericles at the prestigious famous, world-class Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the role of lead. The play received rave reviews and her performance during the 92 performances that this play, which was named the production of the year by Canadian reviewers in 2002. The opportunity was presented to her to join Stratford Conservatory, which allows only eight males and four woman to take a course in the art of classical theatre. Contractor eagerly accepted. Contractor was offered a place for the next season and was given the role of Hermia.
